Date Night in San Juan Capistrano

Last night we planned a double date night in downtown San Juan Capistrano. We both absolutely love this area. I actually went to school K-8th grade at Mission Basilica School (right next to the Old Mission) so I’m pretty familiar with the area. There are so many cute places to eat and drink so we decided to make a night out of it!

We had originally planned on wine tasting at Rancho Capistrano Winery and had made a reservation online through their website. But when we got there, we were told that it was closed that night for a weekly wine club/private event/private club (it was kind of unclear) so we couldn’t be seated (even though we had made a reservation through their website for that night). We were told that this happens weekly but could not find a clear mention of it on their website. If you’re going to go to Rancho Capistrano Winery, I would suggest making a reservation on the phone to make sure that they are open and you can go! I’m always careful about making reservations through the actual website so it was a little frustrating that there was no mention of it being closed that night.

We ended up walking across the street to the cutest little wine bar called Five Vines Wine Bar. It has boutique wines, tastings, craft beer, happy hour (Tuesday-Friday from 2-6), small bites, and live music. It’s family owned (LOVE) and everyone we talked to there was so friendly and sweet. We did a champagne and white wine tasting and the boys got some craft beers. Right now they are expanding and putting in a deli next door (which we can’t wait to try) so there is some construction up but the wine bar is still perfect! Make sure you stop in!

Next, we walked across the street to Bueno Bueno Mexican Kitchen for Taco Tuesday! We got blood orange margaritas (we were told these were a favorite) and then picked the tacos we wanted to try. Out of all of them, the favorite was the carnitas (it was so good that we had to order more carnitas tacos after we had already stuffed ourselves). For dessert we got the churros with caramel sauce and (big statement right here) the churros were better than Disneyland churros (if you know you know). The menu at Bueno Bueno is really reasonable and the Taco Tuesday deals were great. Definitely make sure you stop by Bueno Bueno for some amazing Mexican food and drinks.

San Juan Capistrano is our current favorite place for date night & we can’t wait to see what else is around there.
